Questions You Should Ask
No marketing speak. Here are the technical and financial facts about solar energy in Switzerland.
Subsidy & Tax
Pronovo EIV: What do I really get?
▼
Forget 'up to 30%'. Realistic today is rather 15-20% of investment costs through the one-off remuneration (EIV).
The 2026 Formula:
- Base contribution: CHF 350.- one-off
- Power: CHF 320.- per kWp (up to 30 kWp)
Pro Tip: Apply for the subsidy immediately after commissioning. The pots are filled, but processing takes time.
Why is the tax deduction often more important?
▼
In cantons with high taxes (e.g., Bern, Vaud), you often save more through tax deduction than through subsidies.
Example: Investment CHF 25,000. Marginal tax rate 30%.
Tax savings = CHF 7,500.
Pronovo subsidy = approx. CHF 4,000.
Warning: This only applies to existing buildings. For new builds, solar is 'mandatory' and usually not deductible.
Are there subsidies for batteries?
▼
Hardly anymore. Most cantons (e.g., Zurich, Aargau) have stopped their storage subsidies as storage is now more economical.
Exception: Geneva and Thurgau (partially) still have programs. Check this carefully before buying.
How does the application process work?
▼
The installer must register the system with Pronovo. Important for you: Demand a copy of the registration confirmation. Without correct registration (certification by SiNa), no money flows.
True Costs
What does a solar system really cost in 2026?
▼
Hardware prices (modules) are in the basement, but Swiss labor costs remain high.
Realistic guide prices (turnkey):
- 10 kWp (Single-family house): CHF 22,000 - 26,000
- Surcharge storage (10 kWh): + CHF 8,000 - 12,000
Caution: Offers under CHF 20,000 for 10 kWp often save on safety (scaffolding) or components (cheap inverters).
When does the system pay for itself?
▼
Calculated seriously: 10 to 14 years.
Anyone promising you '5 years' is calculating with unrealistically high electricity prices or ignoring operating costs. Since a system lasts 30 years, it is still an excellent investment – better than any savings account.
Imputed rental value tax trap?
▼
Yes, the imputed rental value can rise if the system is classified as 'value-enhancing'. Mostly, however, solar is considered 'value-preserving' (energy-saving).
Expert Advice: Spread the tax deduction over 2 or 3 years to break the progression. Our calculator shows you if this is possible.
Tech & Winter
How much power does my roof generate in winter?
▼
In the Midlands (fog): Little. Expect only 2-5% of annual yield in December/January.
The Solution: Steep roofs (or facades) help in winter as snow slides off and the low sun is captured better. Flat roofs are often covered in snow in winter = Zero production.
Which modules are the best?
▼
Glass-glass modules are more durable (30+ years warranty) but more expensive. Glass-foil modules are often sufficient.
More important than the module: The inverter and cabling. This is where most failures occur.
Do I need optimizers (e.g., SolarEdge)?
▼
Only with shading (chimney, trees, dormers). On a clear roof, optimizers are unnecessary technology that can break. A good string inverter is often more efficient and cheaper.
Our Approach
How do you make money?
▼
We are transparent: We are funded by a referral fee that verified installers pay us when they receive a qualified inquiry.
The service is free for you. We are independent and do not belong to any energy company.
What happens to my data?
▼
Your data remains in Switzerland (server) and goes only to a maximum of 3 partners if you explicitly wish.
We do not sell address lists. That is our quality promise.
